Girl Germs is Back with a Vengeance

February 21, 2011

Wooo, complementary colors!

OK, maybe not necessarily with a vengeance, but we are back in full swing after some (well-deserved, if we do say so) time off. Here’s what we have on tap for spring:

  • Podcasting! Exciting, right? We left Radio K in late December so we know you’ve been jonesin’ for some audio germs for a while now. We’re very happy to announce that Girl Germs has been picked up by the Fancy Pants Gangsters podcast network. Not only will you be able to listen to episodes of Girl Germs again, you’ll be able to download them for free AND stream them on Stitcher (a really cool–and also FREE–on-demand internet radio service). We’re going to start recording within the next week or so, so expect to see some new episodes shortly. Check the FPG website, this blog, or our Facebook and Twitter pages for updates.
  • TV Party with Girl Germs! You know it, you love it. If you don’t know it, here’s the deal: every month at the Red Stag Supperclub, the ladies of Girl Germs team up with The Onion to bring you a night of great TV and great music–a TV Party–and you’re invited. From 9 to 10 p.m. we bring in a sasstacular local DJ to spin tunes for us, and starting at 10 we screen an episode of a feminist-friendly show (past shows have included My So-Called Life, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Daria and Golden Girls). On March 14, we’ll be screening classic episodes of The Mary Tyler Moore Show and our DJ will be Travis Ramin of Ramo Records (which has put out records by influential artists like Holly Beth Vincent and Nikki & the Corvettes) and the Jazzed Up and Bonkers podcast.
  • SXSW! Girl Germs (well, one of us) is headed all the way to Austin, Texas next month to partake in the South by Southwest Music Festival. We’ll be covering all sorts of lady music from artists like Zola Jesus, Shannon and the Clams, Those Darlins and the Bangles (!) and are super excited to see Yoko Ono speak. Watch this blog for updates and photos throughout the festival!
  • Mixes! Have you checked out the mixes we’ve put together for High Plains Thrifter? There’s plenty more where that came from–we’ll be cooking up more of those babies for you this spring.
